CitiSchool

CitiSchool

Our goal is to provide a nurturing and dynamic environment that fosters imagination, curiosity and self-confidence in young children. Our classes promote cognitive, creative and social development through play, exploration and autonomous expression. This builds a solid foundation and love of learning.

CitiSchool Jr. (17 months - 24 months)

This preschool readiness program meets twice a week and provides children the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a set routine and individual expression. Each class consists of the major elements of preschool: free play, art, snack, story and circle time. Adults attend but are encouraged to move to the sidelines as children develop independence. This is a valuable experience for continuing on to CitiSchool or any preschool program.

2's Program

CitiSchool 2s offers an innovative and dynamic approach to early childhood education. While stressing the importance of the arts, our focus is on the development of the whole child. Through the appropriate socialization and behavior modeling, we provide the right balance of structure and nurture to create independent and autonomous individuals.

Children primarily learn through play. For children to achieve success in each phase of development (social, emotional, physical and cognitive), they must be given opportunities to be active learners. A sequential, systematic curriculum, which includes an array of materials, encourages the innately curious child to explore the world in which he/she lives. Discovery, play and social interaction are the work of childhood.

3s Program

Building on the foundation of our 2s program, CitiSchool 3s expands upon the learning and socialization of the previous year to create critical thinkers. In addition to the emphasis on creativity and expression, CitiSchool 3s exposes students to other vital elements of development: family and community; global, cultural and environmental exploration. In doing so, we hope to cultivate the individual interests of our students by leveraging the talents and experiences of our teachers.

Each school day is highlighted by a 30 minute session with one of our Citibabes subject specialists in the areas of culinary, physical and scientific arts. Our curriculum for 2s, 3s, and 4s also combines a separate daily music and movement section featuring a specialized music teacher and professional pianist. All of these elements combine to create a rich, child-driven program which excites parents as much as it does children.

4s Program (*New!)

This penultimate program picks up where CitiSchool 3s leaves off, delving deeper into our well-rounded curriculum of language, fine arts, math, science, social studies, physical fitness and environmental awareness. Traditional concepts and age-appropriate lessons, including pre-literacy, are embedded in our unique style of hands-on exploration and creative play. With innovative lessons, field trips and guest teachers planned, thoughtful emphasis is placed on practical preparedness for your child’s future entrance into kindergarten, as well as fostering imagination, curiosity and joy for a lifetime love of learning.

CitiSchool Masters

The final segment of our renowned CitiSchool program, this new graduate level class invites our oldest students to look beyond the classroom and fully explore ideas and concepts introduced in previous years. Through work with guest teachers and various field trips, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in some of NYC’s most exciting cultural offerings. Building with blocks progresses to meeting and designing with architects. Music and movement expands into a workshop with a Broadway star and making muffins turns into an afternoon at a local bakery. Our goal is to inspire and cultivate future pursuits and interests by exposing students to a variety of arts-based studies, including local artists, performers and community figures. This program is an enriching addition to the week and the perfect opportunity for little ones to connect with old friends.

Separation

Each child enrolled in CitiSchool 2s must be accompanied in class by a parent or caregiver until the separation process is successfully completed, as determined by the head teacher. Most, if not all, children and parents may experience anxiety or mixed emotions regarding the separation process. Our experienced teachers are prepared for all possible scenarios and will gently guide and support families through the entire process. Successful separation requires time, patience and empathy. We are aware that no two children are alike. We do not expect a child to display more independence than he/she can handle.

Children enrolled in CitiSchool 3s & 4s are required to have completed the separation process in either CitiSchool 2s or another program prior to beginning school.

The Teachers

CitiSchool’s teachers gently guide and encourage the children to explore all the activity areas and experiment in their own way. Our teachers are always respectful of each child’s individuality, and they successfully assist all the children, from the most tentative to the most active.

The Space

Our bright, colorful and modern classrooms enhance the experience of our comprehensive curriculum. CitiSchool’s daily lessons are characterized by consistency, repetition and reinforcement utilizing the six permanent learning centers: music/movement, art/language arts, construction/blocks, science, drama and math.
